Service Description
Instructor: Jim Mundt 4 Weeks Time: 9:30AM-11:30AM Course Dates: Thursday, June 5, 12, 26, July 10 Cost: $160 member $175 nonmember Location of Class: ACAA, 45 Forest Ave. Ambler, PA We’ll complete a watercolor landscape each week. I’ll provide a photocopy at the beginning of each class for the subject, providing follow-along steps from drawing set up to completing the finished painting. An understanding of basic perspective is helpful, but not necessary. We'll cover color mixing, building values with watercolors and composition. After each class I’ll email attendees with a photo of the finished demonstration painting. Material List: I recommend good quality watercolor paper cold press in a “block” form. “Cold press” allows you to paint wet or dry and are also good for drawing on if you work in mixed media. Use whatever sheet size you are comfortable painting on. A basic palette is all that is needed. You should have at least: Ultramarine blue, Cerulean blue, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre OR Golden Ochre, Cadmium green light OR Sap green, a dark green such as Perylene green, Indian yellow OR Windsor yellow, Cadmium Red OR any bright red. I also highly recommend Raw Umber violet as it is a very indispensable enhancer. You should use brushes intended for watercolor. I use brushes from various makers but highly recommend Princeton Velvetouch Long Rounds. They are not that expensive, perform consistently, hold up well and have good “snap”. At minimum, you will need a #14 or #12, #8 and #4. A 1” flat is recommended for broad washes occasionally. Bring a pencil, soft eraser, and a roll of removable tape for taping the edges of your paper. If you’re seasoned or have taken this class before, bring any supplies you have in your arsenal (you can never have too much!) You will need a palette to hold your paints and to provide a surface for mixing. A “John Pike” type palette is recommended, but there are others to choose from. I use a ceramic Pike style palette and an enameled meat tray. I don’t recommend using plastic palettes (the surfactants in the plastic prevent the pigment from mixing properly). 2S25-WCL-JM
